Doctor of Engineering Science, Professor.
After finishing Dnipropetrovsk Mining Institute n.a. Artem in 1981, he has passed all the levels from junior research assistant to a professor of the Mining Department starting from 2000 and until present time.
Since 1998 and until now, he is a head of the laboratory "Special Means of Support and Rock Geomechanics". S. Vlasov has been delivering lectures on the basic disciplines: "Basics of Mining Production", "Rock Mechanics" and "Technology of Underground Mining of Mineral Deposits"
The lectures are delivered based on the author’s methodology. The basic attention is paid to active methods of education. Specially developed workbook, working copy books, 3-D movies and texts are using with this purpose. All these allows increasing of material understanding effectiveness and getting necessary skills for a mining engineer.
Student diploma works, which are supervised by Professor S. Vlasov are real projects since they are carried out based on the assignments of coal enterprises directors and receive maximal grades. All former students successfully work at coal mines of Ukraine.
Professor Vlasov fruitfully working with students. Based on the studies, students have been preparing reports and take part in scientific student conferences and academic competitions. His former student D. Tvilenev. was awarded with the 3rd place in the second Ukrainian academic competition 2010/2011 by the specialty "Mining of Mineral Deposits", section "Underground mining of Ore Deposits" (Kryvyi Rig city).
Since 2009, S. Vlasov gives lectures for the postgraduates of the NMU "Preparing, Editing and Defending of PhD Theses". During this period, he has got lectures to more than 280 postgraduate students. He has been mentoring master and postgraduate studies. Under his supervision, 10 master and 6 PhD works have been defended. Two of the PhD’s have been working in the near and far abroad, three – in the NMU.
S. Vlasov has been taking part in developing the scientific-pedagogical staff of not only the NMU but also of the Higher Education Establishment of Dnipropetrovsk region. He is a curator of young scientists council of Dnipropetrovsk region that he had created and had been the head of since 2000 to 2010. Since 2009, S. Vlasov is a head of the section of working with young researchers in Prydniprovsk Scientific Center of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine and the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine.
Since 2013, professor has been delivering lectures on "Engineering Geology" in Vyatsk State University, Russia based on the received grants.
The successes of the teaching and scientific activity of S. Vlasov are honored by the following awards: lapel badge "Mine Glory of the Third Level" of the Ministry of Fuel and Energy of Ukraine; lapel badge of "Petro Mogyla" of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine; diploma and lapel badge "The Best Figure of Science of Prydniprovia" of Dnipropetrovsk regional state administration; the medal of NMU named after O. Terpygoriev; medal "50 years of KB "Pivdenne".
S. Vlasov has been a member of two specialized Scientific Councils for 14 years for doctor and PhD theses defending. Only for the last 5 years, he has prepared 20 reviews for more than 20 autoabstracts of doctor and PhD theses.
The basic scientific activity is concentrated on two directions:
- development of methods of weak dispersed rocks stability increase;
- increase of coal extraction efficiency considering geomechanics of mining massif.
Total amount of research works is 125, including 4 monographs, 4 collections of papers, 10 patents on invention. Six papers are published abroad, took part in 24 conferences, symposiums and forums.
